Elevated and fixed-site antennas are exposed to surges, including EMP caused by lightning strikes. Those surges can travel down the coax into the radio or router. The Panorama SAMS-NP-NBJ is a light-duty, multi-surge arrester that sits inline to protect that equipment. It has an N male connector and an N female bulkhead connector. You can fit it between an antenna and its feeder cable, or between a coaxial run and a radio or cellular router. The arrester operates from 0 to 6 GHz with low return and insertion loss, and it has a typical VSWR below 1.5:1. Maximum input power is 80 W. The body is 49 mm (1.93 in) high and 22.8 mm (0.90 in) in diameter, and the copper alloy construction is rated IP68. It operates from -40°C to +85°C (-40°F to +185°F). Grounding is built in. The bulkhead feature mounts and earths the arrester to a conductive earth bar or panel up to 6.5 mm (0.25 in) thick. Alternatively, it can accept a heavy-duty earth tag. For integrators building cellular gateways at towers, rooftops, cabinets or remote sites, it adds a protective stage without changing the N-type connector plan.
