The Ericsson Cradlepoint R980 is a ruggedized 5G router and security appliance built for vehicles, IoT sites and hazardous locations. This SKU, TCA3-R980-5GD-A, bundles the Wi-Fi-equipped R980 with a 3-year Ericsson NetCloud Ruggedized IoT Essentials + Advanced subscription and is listed for the U.S., Australia, Canada, the European Union, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. The unit ships without antennas or an AC power supply. Its 3GPP Release 16 modem covers 5G NR low- and mid-band from 600 MHz to 6 GHz in NSA and SA modes, with LTE Advanced Pro Cat 19 fallback and 4x4 MIMO. Peak rates reach 3.4 Gbps down and 550 Mbps up on NSA. The R980 supports 5G network slicing with up to four DNN/PDN instances, and pairs dual 4FF SIM slots with MFF2 eSIM hardware holding up to eight carrier profiles; over-the-air carrier switching is slated for future NetCloud OS releases.
