InHand Networks IG502-FQ33-IO compact metal industrial edge gateway with terminal blocks, Ethernet ports and SMA antenna connectors.

The IG502-FQ33-IO is the North America LTE Cat 1 version of InHand Networks' IG502, a cost-effective industrial IoT edge gateway. It is built for system integrators, OEMs and operations teams who need to collect data from PLCs, meters and sensors at remote sites. The gateway filters and processes that data locally, then sends it to AWS, Azure or another cloud platform over cellular. The FQ33 module covers LTE bands B2/B4/B5/B12/B13/B25/B26. Dual Micro SIM slots with failover keep the link up if one carrier drops. This configuration adds the -IO option: 4 digital inputs and 4 digital outputs with 3000 VDC isolation. It can read dry contacts and discrete signals and handle simple control directly. It keeps the standard 1× RS-232 plus 1× RS-485 serial ports on an industrial terminal block, alongside two 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports, USB 2.0 Type-A and microSD storage up to 32GB. An ARM Cortex-A8 at 600MHz with 512MB RAM and 8GB eMMC runs a custom Linux OS. Python secondary development and optional DSA support protocols including Modbus RTU/TCP, OPC UA, EtherNet/IP, IEC101/104, DNP3.0, BACnet and IEC61850-MMS. The gateway is designed for sites where no one is on hand. A hardware watchdog, heartbeat link detection with auto-redial, and logs that are preserved through power loss help with remote maintenance. DeviceLive provides remote access, batch operations and remote upgrades. Security includes a firewall, OpenVPN, IPsec VPN and multi-level user permissions. The fanless metal housing is rated IP30 and measures 110 × 127 × 35 mm. It mounts on a DIN rail or panel and takes 12-48V DC through a terminal block. This model has no Wi-Fi, so it is rated for the wider -40 °C to 70 °C operating range.

How do I log in to the IG502 for the first time?▾

Connect a computer by Ethernet and set its adapter to DHCP or a 192.168.2.x static IP. Browse to https://192.168.2.1 and accept the self-signed certificate. Log in with username adm and the password printed on the device nameplate. The WAN/LAN port defaults to 192.168.1.1.

Do I need to set the APN manually?▾

Usually not. Insert the SIM with the device powered off, then power on. The IG502 auto-detects the carrier and applies the matching APN in most cases. If the link does not come up, set the APN under Network > Cellular. A steady NET LED means the connection succeeded.

Which industrial protocols does it support?▾

With the optional DeviceSupervisor (DSA), the IG502 supports more than 80 protocols. These include Modbus RTU/TCP, EtherNet/IP, OPC UA, ISO on TCP, Mitsubishi MC, FINS UDP, HostLink, PPI, DLT645-2007, IEC101/104, DNP3.0, IEC61850-MMS, BACnet and CNC.

Where is VPN configured?▾

VPN settings are under Advanced > VPN. You can choose IPsec, OpenVPN or GRE and configure the tunnel to match your VPN policy.
