Handle demanding edge and aggregation traffic with the ER-8-XG. Built around 10 GbE connectivity, this EdgeRouter is designed for environments that need fast forwarding, clean port density, and fiber-ready uplinks without moving to a larger chassis. With 8 total ports and SFP+ expansion, it fits well in networks where high-speed interconnects are standard and latency-sensitive traffic needs a direct path. The platform is a strong match for infrastructure teams consolidating multiple uplinks, connecting high-bandwidth servers, or building a compact distribution layer. Its 10GbE Ethernet technology supports modern access and aggregation designs, while the SFP+ slot type gives flexibility for fiber-based deployment patterns. For teams that value predictable routing behavior and a smaller footprint, the ER-8-XG provides the right balance of density and speed. Because this model is positioned for enterprise routing rather than consumer simplicity, it is best suited to environments where port count, uplink speed, and rack planning matter more than bundled extras. That makes it a practical choice for organizations standardizing on 10G infrastructure and looking for a router that can keep pace with the rest of the network.
