The 1444-6415 is an open-bottom aluminum chassis measuring 6 x 4 x 1.5 in (152 x 102 x 38 mm) — width by depth by height — from the 1444 Series. It is a practical base for builders of tube and audio projects and other classic-style electronics who need a rigid, metal chassis to mount components on and punch for connectors.
The chassis is spot welded for heavy-duty construction and formed from 0.040" (1.02 mm) aluminum. It ships in a natural aluminum finish, and the protective covering on the aluminum can double as a layout surface for marking hole positions before you cut.
Inside, the drawing gives an inner box of 5.92 in (150.37 mm) long, 3.92 in (99.57 mm) wide and 1.42 in (36.07 mm) high, so you can check internal component clearances before ordering. Shipping weight is 0.25 lbs (0.11 kg).
The bottom is open. A matching natural-finish bottom plate, part 1434-8, is available separately; bottom plates are punched with four 3/16" diameter holes and are made from the same 0.040" aluminum. Mounting hardware for the plate is not included — order 1421J6, a package of six 6-32 x 1/4" self-tapping cover screws. The 1434-8 plate also fits 1444-8 and 1444-643 in the same series.
Keep in mind that Hammond's 1451 Series steel chassis covers are not compatible with this series. The chassis is RoHS and REACH compliant, can be factory modified (milling, drilling, printing) on request, and solid models are available in STEP or IGES formats.
