Build a compact modular routing platform around the Cisco ASR 9903 3RU chassis. Its rack-mounted enclosure provides the physical foundation for an ASR 9903 system where fixed-port appliances do not provide the required chassis architecture. The 3RU format makes it relevant to network locations that must conserve rack height while retaining a modular routing design. SP-OS3-NCS501UN carries the Flexible Consumption compact-chassis designation for this platform. That designation distinguishes the ordered chassis from a generic router appliance and helps maintain alignment with the intended Cisco commercial configuration. The chassis is suited to service-provider and enterprise-edge environments that require an ASR platform in a smaller equipment footprint. Plan the surrounding system architecture around the ASR 9903 chassis format, including the applicable interface, power, and system components required by the deployment. Its value is in establishing the 3RU hardware base for a modular router rather than supplying a fixed collection of Ethernet ports. This makes the platform appropriate where routing interfaces and system configuration need to follow site-specific network design requirements.
