Connect optical-media capability to a USB-C-equipped notebook or desktop for DVD playback, disc burning, software installation, and access to archived CD or DVD media. The ASUS SDRW-08V1M-U/BLK/G/AS ZenDrive V1M is an external, tray-loading DVD writer with up to 8x DVD read and write operation and up to 24x CD read and write operation. Its USB-C connection supports USB 3.0, USB 3.1, and USB 3.2 Gen 1 hosts. The drive operates from USB bus power rather than requiring a separate AC adapter. It is intended for horizontal placement and measures 5.6 x 0.6 x 5.9 inches, keeping it small enough to travel with an ultraslim laptop or remain beside a desktop workstation. Compatibility covers Windows 8 through Windows 11 and macOS 10.6 or later, supporting mixed Windows and Mac environments that still need removable optical media. M-DISC support distinguishes this writer for workflows that record compatible archival media alongside ordinary DVD and CD tasks. The unit reads DVD-ROM, DVD±R, DVD±RW, dual-layer DVD formats, CD-ROM, and CD-R media, while writing DVD±R, DVD±RW, dual-layer DVD, CD-R, and CD-RW formats at format-dependent speeds. A self-storing USB-C cable keeps the connection cable attached to the drive for transport and storage.

2Adds M-DISC support for compatible archival optical media.
3Provides both DVD writing up to 8x and CD writing up to 24x.
4Operates from USB bus power in a 0.6-inch-high external enclosure.
